Clothing

The largest part of the collection fund of the ethnography department is made of clothes, internally divided into men´s, women´s, children´s, embroidery, lace, fabric, textile furnishings, accessories, samplers and masks. This collection is as old as the museum itself the first components of folk clothes being collected on its opening. In the 1920s to 1940s collectors´ interest was primarily in embroidery, details and complete costumes from the whole of Slovácko. These days the collection fund comprises over 20,000 pieces of embroidery, folk costume components and textile furnishings since the late 17th century till today. The fund covers a major part of Slovácko, with the largest part being folk clothes from Uherské Hradiště and Uherský Brod regions. Those worthy of mentioning are collections of František Kretz, Josef Stancl and Josef Zemek which contain embroideries, valuable decorations and among others also decayed parts of women´s dresses such as ancient scarves and headdresses. In addition, the fund comprises folk costume sets with almost two thousand components, 300 pairs of children´s, women´s and men´s shoes.
