Agriculture

This section is represented by farming tools, tools for keeping cattle and poultry, vineyard tools, beekeeping, fruit- and vegetable-growing.

In the time when museums originated, agriculture was neglected by collectors, ethnography enthusiasts and first employees. They were more into embroidery and ceramics. The collection of farming tools arose in 1968 following a collection campaign which was organized by Slovácké Museum in cooperation with the Institute of Folk Arts in Strážnice and the Faculty of Philosophy UJEP in Brno. The collection proliferate taking on semi-iron and iron ploughs, coulters, ploughstaffs, plough-wheels, extirpators, windrows, harrows, spades, hoes, forks, manure vessels. Plus, tools for harvesting – sickles, scythes, anvils, rakes, flails, various types of shovels etc. Unusual objects include whetstone sheaths, millstones for milling grain. Later were added blowers for removing impurities from grains, straw binder machines. Among the vehicles the department can boast of are a rack wagon and a woven cart, various types of wheels, four-wheel carts and wheel-barrows.

Cattle and poultry keeping are represented by wooden harnesses for cattle, horse headstalls and collars, muzzles, whips and also shears for cutting sheep fleece. Also interesting part of the collection is a set of castrating tools donated by M. Šlégl of Pitín.

As for winemaking, the most treasurable objects include a winepress from the year 1847 which is placed in Slovácko exhibition hall and others from 1824 and 1889, some little presses, vine knives, weaved baskets and a tub for grapes of wine.

Beekeeping is represented by a beehive from 1910, fumigators, fruit-growing and vegetable-growing by a number of tools such as hoes, shovels, shears. Among those extraordinary things is a complete set from Josef Župka of Jankovice, a chronicler and collector, purchased in 1922. The objects that relate to fruit processing are mostly those used for brewing plum jam, i.e. kettles, wooden spoons, ladles, sieves, and others and instruments for drying and preserving fruits. The set of these objects amounts to about two and a half thousands.
