Locality „Na Díle" at Modrá

The locality is situated about 4 km northwest of Staré Město, near a village of Modrá along the trade route which in the past connected central Moravia with the Vyškov region.

The foundation masonry of the local church was discovered as early as 1911 by Jan Nevěřil of Olomouc Faculty of Theology. He managed to unearth the floor plan of a construction and identified it as a church from the Constantin-Method times. A repeated archeological research at Modrá was conducted by archaeologist Vilém Hrubý of Brno Moravian Regional Museum in 1953-1954. Only then was the reconstruction of the Modrá church possible. The church was built of sandstone pieces bound by mortar and the floor plan was two longitudinally positioned rectangles. Inside the church there were four supports whose function has not been clearly explained by now. The church walls were mortared on both sides having some colour shades inside, and a grey-brown hue outside. Around the church 37 skeleton graves from the first half of 9th to the mid-10th century were reviewed too.

In the years 1999-2000, a hypothetic reconstruction of a Great Moravia small church was built in the proximity of the above mentioned archeological excavations at Modrá.
